Miss Universe Perú Helps Those Affected By Flooding

"El Niño Costero" is a phenomenon currently underway that affects the nations of Peru and Ecuador. This phenomenon is characterized by anomalous warming of the sea focused on the coasts of these countries.

This warming produces humidity that triggers heavy rains causing overflows, floods and alluviums that affect several localities, especially in the north of Peru. It was preceded in 2016 by a severe drought that affected both countries. Official government reports show a total of 101 deaths, 353 injured, 19 missing, 141,000 affected and almost one million affected nationwide since December 2016.

Fortunately, the whole country has been deployed in a great wave of support for these people affected, thanks to the "Una Sola Fuerza" (“A Single Force”) campaign which seeks to bring aid to the most affected places in the country. The Ministry of Transport and Communications in coordination with several companies interested in providing their support anonymously took non-perishable food, mattresses, clothing, water, utensils, hygiene and other supplies valued at approximately 10 million dollars. The chosen one to coordinate the delivery like representative of our country was the Miss Universe Peru 2016 Valeria Piazza.

Valeria arrived on April 5 in the town of Cucungará, Piura (one of the most affected regions of the country) and collaborated with the distribution of aid for thousands of people through this campaign that is still delivering inputs in several cities. In order to find ways to continue supporting the victims in Peru, the website www.unasolafuerza.pe was created.
