Reigning Miss Universe: US Unbreakable Tour - West Virginia

Miss Universe 2017 Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters will visit the WVU downtown campus to share her Unbreakable campaign, a program aimed to empower women to learn life-saving skills on how to handle life-threatening situations. She will also be present for a meet-and-greet at the Mountainair, beginning at noon.

After surviving a violent carjacking in early 2017, Nel-Peters created the campaign, where she partners with self-defense experts and other educators who train women how to handle life-threatening situations, including sexual harassment, assault, and abusive relationships.

Her message focuses on key points for mental and emotional preparedness when reacting quickly in any unwanted situation.

Originally from South Africa, Nel-Peters won the Miss Universe title in November of 2017. Her campaign is based on physical and emotional preparedness.

Nel-Peters was fortunate to have taken a women’s empowerment course prior to the carjacking, which was critical to her survival. She now travels internationally hosting workshops and empowerment discussions to reach as many women as possible.

Nel-Peters will hold an Unbreakable discussion to the Morgantown community. She will be available for photographs and autographs at the Mountainair and, later, at the Courtyard by Marriot Morgantown.
